Getting married in Formentera

September 2026 · 6 min read

Getting married in Formentera is the beach wedding at its purest: turquoise water, white sand, sunsets with no buildings in the way and a pace that makes everyone switch off. It's one of the most sought-after weddings in the Mediterranean, but also one that takes the most planning, because the island is small, everything arrives by boat and each venue has its own rules. This guide brings together what's worth knowing before you book, from the best spots to the real logistics of the day.

At Maison Photobooth we work in Formentera regularly, so we know first-hand what it takes to set up a photo experience on the island. We'll be straight with you: where a wedding works well, what to keep in mind with suppliers and how to avoid the usual pitfalls.

The ferry and the set-up are on the wedding photo booth in Ibiza and Formentera page.

Why Formentera

Formentera offers something almost no other Mediterranean island still has: near-untouched beaches, few crowds outside the peak months and a light that makes everything photogenic. For a couple after privacy and a spectacular natural setting, it's hard to beat. The trade-off is that there is less infrastructure than in Ibiza, so every detail is planned further ahead.

The best spots for the ceremony

Cala Saona

The most famous beach for sunset ceremonies, with its reddish cliffs and calm water. The hotel on the cove hosts celebrations and is one of the few places with infrastructure right by the beach. It books up well in advance.

Es Pujols

The main resort area, with the widest choice of restaurants and beach bars for wedding dinners by the sea. Ideal for celebrations that want atmosphere and easy access, with accommodation close by for guests.

Platja de Migjorn

Kilometres of sand on the south coast, with landmark beach bars that host sunset weddings. The perfect place for a relaxed, barefoot party that runs on into the night.

Ses Illetes

The postcard image of Formentera, inside the natural park. It's a protected area, so celebrations are tightly regulated; it suits the ceremony and the photos more than the party. Check the permits well ahead.

The logistics: what nobody tells you

Everything comes by boat. You can't fly to Formentera: you reach it by ferry from Ibiza (about 30 minutes). Every supplier, the photo booth included, travels with their kit on the ferry, so you need to allow time for the crossing and set-up.

Getting around the island. There aren't many taxis or much public transport. Think about how guests will move between accommodation, ceremony and dinner; many couples arrange a private transfer or hire cars.

Season and booking. The season runs from May to October, and July and August are chaotic with tourism. Many couples choose June or September for the weather and the calm. Venues and accommodation book up a long way ahead.

Power and wind. Many venues are open-air and right on the beach, with no nearby power socket and no shelter from the wind. Suppliers need to bring self-contained lighting and sound, and plan for the wind during set-up.

The photo booth at a Formentera wedding

At a wedding with guests arriving from several countries, the physical keepsake matters more: the printed photo strip or the voice message they take home. We travel to Formentera with everything ready to work right on the beach: self-contained lighting that doesn't depend on the venue's power, a set-up planned for the wind, and coordination beforehand with the venue and the wedding planner. Travel to the island is quoted separately, depending on the date and the format.

The audio guest book works especially well in Formentera: a telephone with its own battery that can be placed in any corner, with no cables, so guests can leave their message with the sea behind them.
